The dark holds no fear
Namine has a couple different lights she can have on at night.
-

Fryburgers and salad sandwiches
Namine really wanted to have lunch with me, so I waited until Jessica and Namine could come pick me up after this morning’s therapy session. We went to McDonald’s, which is just up the road from my office.
-
Resiliency
Namine rarely impresses me more than after surgery. Despite all the pain she was in yesterday, she seems to be completely pain-free today. She woke up fairly early at 8:00, even though she was quite tired and fell asleep fairly quickly last night.
-

Those were my pretzels!
Yesterday was an “ignore all the housework that we really should do and just do nothing as a family” kind of day. It was a great day to just spend time together – just me, Jessica, and Namine.
-

A selfless love
Namine’s Christmas was something close to magical. We don’t have a lot of money, so her gifts would have been in shorter supply, were it not for the generosity of our friends and family. For that, we are truly grateful.
-

That Christmas spirit
It’s an accidental bokeh image! I think it looks nice. Credit to my lovely wife. Namine is very much looking forward to Christmas, and we had a lot of fun setting up the tree. We’re trying to temper the excitement about presents and Santa with the real meaning, that of Jesus’ birth.
-
Love’s bravery
Namine is afraid of the doctor’s office. When she has an appointment, she throws up; it’s a rare occasion indeed when she doesn’t. Knowing this, though, makes the reassurance she gave to Jessica all the more special.
-

Gribbles
Every once in a while, Namine will say something that we don’t understand. Some time ago, one such word was “appawooby.” We could not, for the longest time, figure out what it meant. We eventually figured it out: it meant “that would be.” She was saying an approximation of when we say it quickly, “tha’wou’be.”…
-

A language all our own
When Namine was little, she had to have a trach. It was what allowed her to survive, before she was big enough to withstand the jaw distraction and cleft palate repair surgeries. Even then, it took some time before she was able to be rid of the trach. During that time, we – all three…
-

Pumpkin carving
A couple days ago, Namine and carved her first pumpkin.
-

Fearless
It wasn’t Namine’s first birthday party – that honor was given to her friend from HealthReach last year, I think – but it was her first time in a dance studio.
-

A stay at home kind of day
Namine’s staying home from therapy today due to her not feeling well. I only wish I could have, too. Both Jessica and I are feeling pretty much what Namine is feeling – stuffy, boogery, just all-around congested. We went to Urgent Care last night to see if we – Jessica and I – needed to…
