On Friday Jessica had a bone marrow biopsy. Let me back up a bit. Her platelets have been low for some time – for several years, if the doctor is correct. This had never come to our attention; so Jessica had to have a blood test done. Its results were inconclusive, thus the biopsy.
This post could easily be called “a look at our nearly three years of parenthood.” I know some moms who would not share this day with their husbands for their life, but thankfully Jessica is not like that. We both feel that we would not be as good separate. We would not be complete.
My mom took Namine to the Urgent Care this morning, and I accompanied them, in case they needed to suction out her ears. Namine has small ear canals, and she has been prone to fluid buildup, which can of course cause an ear infection. I myself was always prone to ear infections, and I remain so even as an adult. So in addition to her small ear canals (which may or may not be a side effect of the Pierre Robin, but at this point, who cares?), she’s got my less-than-desirable disposition.
My mom and dad picked Namine up to take her to some kind of music class this morning. I’ll update everybody on how it went later. In the meantime, Jess, her sister Chyral, and I are going to pick up the cake and go to the baby shower. We’ll all meet there and then I think someone will go with me to bring Namine home.
I took Namine’s temp tonight before putting her to bed, and it was 99. That’s down from 100, so we’re getting there. She’s chewing on damn near everything, and this was even after dinner, so I’m pretty sure her teeth are bothering her. I know her two-year molars are coming in, so that would pretty much do it. Read on for more family news.
We went out this evening, with the intention of stopping by the UPS store to pick up a package, going to dinner, and stopping by Jess’s mom’s apartment before heading back home. Let’s just say things didn’t exactly go to plan. That’s okay, though. We still had a fun time out together, and we got to see more of Namine’s love of ketchup. I need to take more videos.
Yes, kids, it’s been a while since our last update. I blame hospital visits for that one. I’m pretty sure I completely skipped updating when Namine got her distractors out. Yes, she no longer has distractors, and her plastic surgeon, Dr. Denny, proclaimed her jaw stronger than he expected. (He expected to have to leave one or both in place, at least for another month. Yay for us!) To fast forward a bit, Namine is doing well. The doctors seem ready to decanulate her (for the uninitiated, that means the trach can come out!) but as we have more surgeries soon, we opted to wait. Namine is scheduled to have her cleft palate repaired in June, and God only knows […]
So Jessica’s doctor had already concluded – prior to her biopsy today – that her gall bladder needed to be removed. But, what the heck, we’ll subject her to anesthesia and the general fun crap of another doctor’s visit. One, I might add, that took a good few hours longer than originally anticipated. Anyhoo, Jessica had her biopsy today. Afterwards, the doctor gave us the surprising news that her gall bladder wasn’t working, so it needed to come out. (As he said this, he made a sweeping motion with his hand and made a shwwp noise.) Imagine that. So he gave us the number of a surgeon to call. The earliest available date is Friday. Not tomorrow, mind, but a week from […]
