Namine’s school requires so many hours of community service each academic year. I believe it’s eight, but they’ve never had an issue with meeting the minimum requirement as they love to help out wherever they can. If they get their preference, they always choose to return to Zachariah’s Acres, a place for special needs individuals and their families to reconnect with nature and their Creator.
The event Namine helped out with, this time, was called Harvest Dinner — a celebration event to say thank you for the CSA (community supported agriculture) volunteer work. For our part, the first task we were given was picking mint leaves, which were used to infuse ice water for the guests.
Once that task was complete, we were sent on a beer run. There was a refrigerator some distance away from the building where guests entered, so it was up to us to bring bottles of beer from one location to the other.
On the way out to the fridge, Namine was able to use their SmartDrive to propel themselves, while steering with one hand and holding the empty crate with the other. It was still tricky though, since they had to switch hands when they needed to steer with the other hand. On the way back, I made things easier on Namine by pushing them while they held onto the full crate.
