Fall Fest

Namine had a lot of fun at their school’s Homecoming dance.

Fall Fest, not to be confused with fall ball, is one of two school dances that Namine always attends (the other being prom). It’s a two and a half hour drive from our house, but well worth the drive. Jessica and I dropped Namine off and headed to dinner, a nice date for us while they were at the dance.

When Jessica and I were done with dinner, we headed back to the hotel where the dance was being held. There is always a space for parents to gather nearby while the dance is going on, so we hung out there and played card games while Namine danced with their friends.

As Namine has grown, they’ve become more sensitive to loud sounds. (Fireworks are not much fun, so we don’t go anymore.) In spite of this, Namine still loves going to the dances. To combat the loud music, they have a pair of Loop ear plugs which still allows sound to come through but still blocks loud ambient noise. These helped combat the loud music somewhat, but Namine still took some breaks from it to avoid getting a headache.

After the dance was over, we drove to a different hotel — the one where we’d booked a room. We’ve made the long drive home after the dance before, but experience has taught us that it’s far from ideal. It’s much better to get a good night’s rest and make the trek in the morning, so that’s what we did.
