When we arrived at the Miracle League field for Namine’s game, the first thing we had to do was pick up her jersey and hat. She was in the hospital on Pickup Day, so they held onto her uniform for us until we could pick it up. It’s still an hour or so away from our house, but it wasn’t a problem to pick up on game day.
Namine tried something new this game, when it came to her turn to bat. In previous seasons, she used the tee until she was confident enough to hit the ball pitched to her. When she and her Buddy were practicing before the game, they were having trouble striking the right balance — either Namine was swinging too high or low, or her Buddy was pitching at the wrong height.
Whatever the reason, Namine decided that rather than use the tee, she would simply throw the ball in the air and hit it. She’s done the same thing countless times in tennis, so she was confident it wouldn’t be a problem. It wasn’t.
