As you might recall, Namine attends two schools. The first is Rural Virtual Academy, an online public school, which she’s attended since Kindergarten. The second, which she’s joined more recently, is Bright Rising Arts and Education, a home-school co-op. It is through the latter that Namine has been able to participate in choir and theater classes.
Before the coronavirus pandemic, Bright Rising had planned to put on a production of The Music Man Jr. Online distance learning is nothing new to Namine, but it was a huge adjustment for many parents, teachers, and students, including those at Bright Rising. They have, however, risen to the challenge (sorry not sorry).
The Music Man is one of my favorite musicals, so I for one am really looking forward to the finished production put on by the Bright Rising students. It still remains to be seen when the quarantine might be lifted, but even so Namine and her friends are keeping each others’ spirits high with their rehearsals and play dates.
