On boundaries
One of the people I follow on Twitter posted yesterday posted (and I’m more or less paraphrasing, since I can’t find at the moment the original tweet), “a child without boundaries is a child with much stress.” I’d like to chime in here.

Reconsiderations
Namine continues to amaze us. After a recasting experience that can only be described as traumatic, she recovered quickly and easily. So much so that Jessica and I are forced to reconsider what we previously thought was an easy decision.

Trach/vent clinic, then recasting
I’m sitting here at the hospital waiting for the valet to bring my car back, so I figure I’ll start tonight’s post. I really don’t like making longer posts from my phone, but it’s either this or keep hitting “refresh” in TweetDeck.

Stoma care: using Mepilex instead of gauze
The question of keeping Namine’s tracheostomy stoma covered was raised in my mind. Since decannulation, we’ve kept it covered with gauze. It seems like she’s coughing when she has the gauze on, but when we take it off, she doesn’t cough as much or at all. So I called the ENT department at Children’s Hospital…

Namine’s stoma infection
Namine is in the hospital again. Following on the heels of last night’s post (actually, it was probably early morning) is the news that Jessica and my mom took her into the ER this morning.

A sudden lack of trache
I’m happy to say that Namine is safely home, and she’s asleep in her own bed again.

Namine’s trach removal is tomorrow
I don’t think I can get any more straightforward than that.

Appointment day
Namine had an appointment today, a checkup visit with Dr. Denny, her plastic surgeon. (Why are they called plastic surgeons? They operate on people.) Just to make sure her jaw is doing okay, and all that lovely stuff. And tomorrow’s the big day! We check in at the hospital tomorrow at 10.

Fever
Cross your fingers that this doesn’t get worse, or better yet, that it passes completely in less than 5 days. Because that’s how long Namine has until her decannulation appointment, and she has a fever. It’s not terribly bad, but it’s still worrisome. She’s still in high spirits, but that’s about par for her. Half…

Well, kids, we’re in the final week before Namine gets rid of her trach.

Procedure recovery periods
In answer to the question of recovery periods, Namine will be in the hospital for up to 3 days after they remove the trach. A week or so later, her stoma (tracheostomy hole in her throat) will be closed, end of story. The foot surgery, on the other hand, has a recovery period of 6-8…

Foot surgery reschedule
Or so we are led to believe. Ortho called today, and they want to put Namine back on the schedule for having her feet repaired.
