cough

  • A call and a promise

Namine’s cough is still present; worse, it seems to have deepened. We suspect it has gotten into her lungs. So we called the special needs doctor on call – unfortunately, Dr. Gordon is out of town – and the woman who called us back is an idiot. Yes, I frequently put my foot in my…

  • Again to the ER

The night was not kind to Namine.

  • Sicker tonight

I am sitting in the living room typing this post, with the baby monitor sitting next to me so I can hear Namine’s every cough. It’s taking me a lot longer to type tonight’s up, with many a break in my train of thought because every time she coughs, I run into her bedroom. Each…

  • The strength of a child

You might recall, from before all the excitement about Namine getting her own room and the genetics appointment, that Namine has a cough.

  • Third time’s the charm

Namine woke up this morning, crying and coughing. When I heard that wheezing, barking cough, I thought, Oh no. Not the croup again.

  • Night trip to the ER

Namine woke up at about 1:30 this morning, wheezing and gasping for breath.

  • Coughing fits, and a clinic visit

Yesterday was a pretty fun day. Jessica, Namine, and I went over to my mom’s house for lunch. My dad went out and got a sled for Namine, and he ran around the front yard with a bundled Namine in tow. (I would have loved to do the towing, but I was stricken with a…

  • Emergency appointment

Namine’s cough has been pretty nonexistent lately; during the night, at least, we haven’t heard her cough at all lately.

  • Taking a deep breath

Of all the things that we fear above all else, as parents of a post-trach child, is respiratory illness.

  • Coming down with something

Namine was coughing quite a bit after she woke up, so we took her to the doctor this morning. Two nights ago, she was coughing a bit before she fell into a deeper sleep. Last night, however, she didn’t cough at all. I had hoped that whatever had been giving her the sniffles had passed.…

  • Coming home tonight

Namine is being discharged from the hospital this evening. Much has happened since the last post, not the least of which is the foot surgery schedule change.

  • Looking ahead to surgery

Since we switched out Namine’s stoma gauze for Mepilex, she’s been almost completely free of coughing. Score one for the thinking parent. Pretty soon, though, she won’t need anything to cover her stoma, because she won’t have a stoma to cover.
