Coughing fits, and a clinic visit
Yesterday was a pretty fun day. Jessica, Namine, and I went over to my mom’s house for lunch. My dad went out and got a sled for Namine, and he ran around the front yard with a bundled Namine in tow. (I would have loved to do the towing, but I was stricken with a…

Persistent ear infection
I would love to be able to write “the ear infection is gone.” Alas, it is not to be. Jessica and my mom took Namine in to the ENT clinic this morning, where they found that Namine’s ear infection is still there. Smaller, but still there. That means, among other things, that we cannot yet…

A trip to the ENT clinic
We took Namine in to be seen by ENT today. The culture from her ear infection had turned out to be fungal, not bacterial, so the bacterial eardrops we had given her (that finished about ten days ago) did no good. Actually, the eardrops may have exacerbated things, and possibly sped up the rate of…

After Namine’s sleep study
Kids, as much as I’d like to tell you that Namine had her trach taken out today, alas, I cannot. Contrary to what we were told by lying or possible willful ignorant trach/vent nurses, decannulation is not that simple. We have to wait a week for the results of her sleep study, and then we…

OrthopIDIOTS
It’s like in Home Alone 2, where Kevin’s mom asks the concierge, “What kind of idiots do you have working here??” He replies, “The finest in New York, madame.” The 23rd of July, a Friday, was Namine’s scheduled foot surgery, and they canceled that. They told us they would call us back the following Monday.…

From vacation to decannulation
It’s always hard to get back into the swing of the daily routine after a vacation, even a small one like a 3-day weekend. (Of course, the nature of Namine’s condition and medication needs still require a semblance of routine, even on vacation. But it was still nice to relax and to be able to…

Namine’s trach/vent clinic visit
Today is the last day that Namine has to wear arm restraints! Yay! Nothing really much to report from Namine’s trach/vent clinic visit. Last time, they found that she had an infection in her right ear. That’s gone now. We should find out soon if we can get her decannulated this summer. Speaking of, we…

Namine’s palate
It just rolls off the tongue: “Namine’s cleft palate.” For nearly two years, it’s been that way. So whenever I say it or type it, it’s still those three words. But no longer! It’s been a week since her palate, no longer cleft, has been repaired.

The path to recovery
Namine is asleep, so I think now is as good a time as any to update everyone on how she’s doing. The hardest thing a parent has to do, I think, is sit and watch their child in sickness, knowing they can do little to lessen the pain, and nothing at all to improve their…

Vacation
We made it to my aunt’s house around 4 this afternoon. When I took Namine out of the car, hoo boy was she sweaty. Thank goodness the weather is nice, though. Yesterday Namine had her pre-op clinic visit, necessary prior to surgery next week. Everything is looking good, and she’s approved for the repair. So,…

In the hospital again
I haven’t really had a chance before now to post on how Namine’s doing, and for that I apologize. They just kicked me out of her room so they could do a chest x-ray, though, so I guess here’s my chance. They woke her up, and she’s pissed.

Long Overdue Update
Hi, everybody. I apologize for the total lack of updates (something I promised myself I wouldn’t let happen).
