When we asked Namine if she wanted to go to the State Fair this year, at first she said no. A big part of going has always been the rides, especially for our little adrenaline junkie. In years past I have carried Namine up the stairs to the Giant Slide, and we’ve gone on the Ferris Wheel together. Since I hurt my back, we can no longer do that because they all require me to pick Namine up. I have the okay to run again but not to pick her up yet. Namine was understanding of this and was happy to explore the fair in other respects.
And explore we did! We tried a lot of different food, as is required by state law at the fair. Kangaroo jerky is perhaps not quite as adventurous as cricket nachos, but it’s still pretty out there. We also adhered to our culinary traditions, like loaded baked potatoes and the famous cream puffs.
It has also become a tradition of sorts for Namine to get her hair colored or to get a temporary tattoo. The tattoo we made a reality this year as well, but we had to veto the hair dye because of upcoming appointments. She opted to get a dolphin.
