Namine
Namine Olivia Eiche was born on July 15, 2008 with a double-inlet left ventricle heart defect; Pierre Robin sequence, a condition that resulted in a regressed jaw and a partial (U-shaped) cleft palate; caudal regression syndrome (also known as sacral agenesis), which damages the growth of the tailbone and legs, also giving her clubfoot; and scoliosis.

Sleeping on the floor
I have taken apart Namine’s bed. Her mattress now sits upon the floor, and she loves it – much to my surprise, actually. You see, we are giving Namine’s bed, which started life as a crib and transformed into a toddler bed, to Jessica’s friend Emilie, who is expecting a little girl in July.

Namine just called me in to tell me that she’d had a dream about flying.

A spaceship for Aunt Lydia
“What are you drawing, Namine?” “A spaceship.” “Why are you drawing a spaceship?” “It’s for Aunt Lydia, because she’s singing in space.” “I think Aunt Lydia might just be singing in Europe.” “Yes. She’s singing in Europe, in space.”

Because I can never get enough of seeing Namine do what they said she’d never be able to.

Speech appointment
I completely forgot to write about Namine’s speech pathology appointment last week. I wasn’t able to go myself, but Jessica took Namine and told me about it later. I regret to report that the pathologist is still an idiot.

A thought
If you can have a conversation with your child, that’s a pretty good sign they don’t need surgery on their mouth.

“Games,” my butt
Last night I let Namine play on the laptop. She asked me if she could play Elmo games on the computer, so I went to sesamestreet.org. Rookie mistake.

Anger under control
Ever since Namine’s cardiology appointment in which we decided to go ahead with the Fontan – the third surgery in a three-stage heart repair – she has been angry. Not angry all the time, but quicker to anger; more prone to temper tantrums.
