As told by Anna’s CaringBridge page:
Anna was complaining about tummy aches for about 7-10 days. She was running a fever on and off. A CT scan discovered that she has a sizeable tumor in her abdomen along with a number of other smaller masses. She was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis on Saturday, March 21, 2009.
Anna had surgery to remove the largest tumors from her abdomen, but hundreds of tiny tumors remain. Many scans and tests led to a diagnosis of Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a highly-malignant, fast-growing cancer that usually strikes children. An aggressive 54 week plan that includes chemotherapy and radiation began on April 3. Anna must be admitted to the hospital for treatment approximately every other week for 4-5 days at a time.
