Namine
Namine Olivia Eiche was born on July 15, 2008 with a double-inlet left ventricle heart defect; Pierre Robin sequence, a condition that resulted in a regressed jaw and a partial (U-shaped) cleft palate; caudal regression syndrome (also known as sacral agenesis), which damages the growth of the tailbone and legs, also giving her clubfoot; and scoliosis.

New dress
We took Namine to the store and got her a new Christmas outfit. You could say she was excited. We took a bunch of pictures of the little diva in front of the lit Christmas tree. Here they are.

Out and about
On Saturday we took Namine to a movie. It was a showing of Free Birds, put on by the Variety children’s charity group for disabled kids.

So we were watching The Sound of Music tonight. During the beginning of the movie, when they showed the nuns, Namine said this gem: What are those women mad about?

Decorating the window
In lieu of putting up other decorations, like the tree (which we have not have time for, unfortunately), we settled for a simpler solution in case we didn’t get around to the bigger stuff. Fort fun!
One of childhood’s great joys is building a couch fort. We might no longer have the couch, but we still have the cushions. So yesterday, Jessica helped Namine build a cushion fort.

Namine’s new walker
Namine tried out her new walker!

Hers alone
Namine has had a walker since March. Ever since her therapist switched her to a rear-facing walker, her walking has improved by leaps and bounds.

Christmas decorations
When I got home, I was greeted by a disaster. At least, a disaster at first glance. On looking closer, though, I saw that the living room carpet was itself carpeted in homemade Christmas decorations. Oh yes, Jessica and Namine had been busy.

Questions and answers
Namine asks her share of questions over and over again, and to my shame, I’ve answered with my share of “stop asking!” or “because I said so.” I try not to, though, because I feel that she deserves more than that.

Better and worse
When Jessica gets sick, we hope she doesn’t need to be put on antibiotics because she’s allergic to so many. Namine has quite a few medical allergies, but not as many as Jessica. Yet.
