Namine was born with a heart defect called double inlet left ventricle heart defect, or DILV for short. This means that the wall that separates the bottom two chambers of her heart is missing, and the top two chambers are flipped.

Namine has had three heart surgeries, two of them open-heart: the modified Norwood, the Glenn, and the fenestrated Fontan; and countless MRIs and echocardiograms. Her heart has adjusted well to the surgeries and allows her to participate in dance, baseball, and basketball.

Echo results

On Friday Namine had her echocardiogram. Once again, like with Monday's ultrasound, Namine was afraid of the tech and having the echo done. But when she realized that this was painless, she was fine. She lay perfectly still for the entire thing, much to the tech's surprise.

Cardiology visit

This morning we took Namine to see her cardiologist. This was to see when she should have her heart cath, and to look to the future: the Fontan.

Heart cath

I think we are getting closer to her third heart surgery, but we may not be there yet. She had some appointments this morning. Jessica was going to come and eat lunch with me after the doctor stuff, but Namine said she was tired and wanted to go home and rest.

Heart appointment today

We met with Namine's cardiologist today. With Namine's O2 stats being lower since last weekend, our main concern was that the time for the third heart surgery, the Fontan, was drawing near. That's a train you don't want to miss.

Echo tomorrow

Nearly every cardiology visit is filled with big and scary words. Tomorrow's word of the day is echocardiogram. (Am I supposed to put a hyphen or space in there somewhere? As a self-taught medical student - by necessity, you understand - I can never remember.)

Incision complications

Namine has been here in the hospital since Monday, and we still don't have an idea of when she'll be able to go home. Despite having a CT scan, the doctors can't explain why the incision in her chest is opening up again.
