Easter games and crafts

We learned about an Easter event at a local (but not to us) church!

We subscribe to Variety’s newsletter to get news on upcoming events. They not only list events of their own, but also events in the special needs community. This usually pertains to the Milwaukee area, which is local to Variety, which of course is now a bit of a drive for us. That’s okay, though; we don’t mind the trip!

One such event took place at Southbrook Church . There was an Easter egg hunt, set up in a pretty unique way for children with disabilities. In a large room, there were balloons, each tethered to a small rock. A child would pick a balloon of their choosing, bring it to the table at the front of the room, and exchange the balloon for a piece of candy. Each child could do this up to ten times.

In a separate section of the church, there were crafts and games to be done and played, respectively. Namine decorated a foam egg, and then involved both Jessica and myself in making a chick hatching from an egg.

Then she moved to the other half of the room, where there were a few custom-made shuffle boards. In talking with the church member there, we found that he had actually made a couple of those boards himself, some fifteen or so years ago! Namine played a game against him, and then she played a game against me. Namine and Jessica played a game against each other with one of the other boards, which required taking turns, rather than one player competing directly against the other.
