You might recall that, not too long ago, Namine had a new wheelchair delivered. Unfortunately, for a multitude of reasons, that chair didn’t work out. We restarted the process of fitting and measuring, and now the wait is over — the new, new wheelchair has been delivered!
Namine’s new wheelchair is wider and longer. Her right knee doesn’t straighten, so she needs the added width. Her left knee doesn’t bend, so she needs the added length. Elongating the entire cushion — and consequently, the frame — changes the center of gravity on the entire chair, making it more difficult to use.
The solution, instead of elongating the entire chair, was to add an amputee pad. It’s mounted on a swivel and latches into place when in use. It’s easy to put on and take off completely for those times when Namine has to make tight corners in her chair.
The wheelchair is taller as well as wider, which makes it more difficult for Namine to climb up into it. It will take a little getting used to, but she’ll get there. It’s also not so tall that she can’t sit at her school desk or the piano.
