Paper flowers

Jessica and Namine made paper flowers!

With Mother’s Day coming up, Jessica introduced a project to Namine: making paper flowers. The premise is simple enough — a piece of rolled-up green construction paper serves as the stem, and another piece of paper, cut and rolled, is wrapped around the top of the stem.

Namine likes working with scissors, and that one haircut incident aside, has never had a problem with using them. Well, that’s not strictly true. Because of so much else related to her delay in schooling — months and years of hospitalization will do that — she’s been playing catch up with her fine motor skills.

You wouldn’t know it now, though. She’s a hard worker, and it helps that she loves arts and crafts. She had no problem cutting the paper into strips, but not all the way through.

The next step was to roll up each strip. This too was good fine motor practice, which Namine did with a smile. As with rolling up the stem, Jessica helped with taping the rolled up paper into place.

The final product looks nice! A group of different colored paper flowers together in a vase (that’s pronounced “vahz”) produces a particularly nice effect.

What a fun project and good fine motor practice. I love the look of concentration on her face while she’s hard at work. Thanks for adding this post to DifferentDream.com’s Tuesday link up.
