Mike, our favorite physician’s assistant, just gave us an updated report on all things Namine. The doctor from infectious diseases, as I mentioned, wants to open Namine’s chest and clean it out. But Namine’s operating cardiac surgeon does not.

Mike, our favorite physician’s assistant, just gave us an updated report on all things Namine. The doctor from infectious diseases, as I mentioned, wants to open Namine’s chest and clean it out. But Namine’s operating cardiac surgeon does not.

The cardiac surgeon does not think it’s necessary to open up Namine’s chest. He is confident that a round of antibiotics – for how long, though, no one can yet say – will take care of the infection, no more surgery required.

The only thing that infectious diseases and cardiology can agree on is the PICC line: Namine is having it placed sometime tomorrow.

  1. PICC lines can also become seriously infected.

  2. So can mere IVs, which we know from unfortunate experience. I am writing a little more on this, and will post shortly.
