The ER moves in slow motion

A friend of mine said, not too long ago, “the ER moves in slow motion.”

You don’t know how very true that is until you experience it, and, believe you me, we’ve had more than our fair share of experiences in the ER. To say that we spent the night there last night is not a completely true statement, but it nearly was. We arrived at about 8:00 in the evening, and did not leave until about 2:00 in the morning.

It started yesterday afternoon when Namine started vomiting – like, four or five times in quick succession. Jessica got her calmed down, and eventually put her down for a nap. She’d been somewhat lethargic earlier during therapy, but that could be attributed to being either tired or sick. I came home early, just in case we’d end up taking her to the ER. Namine woke from her nap screaming, and pretty much immediately after I picked her up, she puked on me. This was not a simple throw up on my shirt; this was projectile, right in my face. I have to say, it was quite the new experience for me. I’d never gotten puke in my eye before. Not that I’d plan for that sort of thing.

So anyway, we brought Namine in to the ER, perplexed at why she’d all of a sudden start throwing up like this. (Our first thought was stomach flu.) They took x-rays of her stomach, and it turns out that there was a ton of poop backed up in her intestines. The theory is that there’s no more room for anything to go down, so she throws stuff back up.

Thankfully, they never admitted Namine, but we didn’t get home until about 3:00. She’s still not feeling the greatest, but at least today she’s kept her liquids down. If she continues to do so, we’ll be able to stay home tonight. If not, we’ll be back in the ER.

That poor little kiddo – and her poor parents! I’m praying that things have cleared up for her and that you can all have a good night’s sleep in your own beds.

  2. I’m glad things are getting better.
