Emergency appointment

Namine’s cough has been pretty nonexistent lately; during the night, at least, we haven’t heard her cough at all lately.

But yesterday morning, when she woke up, she was coughing deep, throaty coughs, and they were bringing up phlegm. Afraid of respiratory distress, Jessica called the pediatrician and set up an appointment. It was a bit short notice, but they were able to fit Namine in at 11:30. She also checked her O2 saturation level – it was pretty good, at 87 – and called Children’s Hospital’s special needs line, just to be on the safe side.

My dad and I met Jessica at the doctor’s office, where we all waited to be called in. It was all pretty standard – they listened to Namine breathe (she took nice, deep breaths, something the doctor didn’t expect her to be able to do); they looked in her ears, mouth, and nose; they took her O2 saturation level.

Namine’s O2 sat nicely between 88 and 91. We couldn’t ask for a better saturation. Her right ear still has a little liquid in it, but it’s really not draining. There’s still a little blood, but that’s to be expected. Nothing alarming there. Her lungs sound good; no liquid, nothing raspy, and breathing deeply doesn’t trigger any coughing.

The doctor expects that it might be a dry apartment that set off her coughing this morning. It could also be something as simple as a little mucus buildup overnight – everybody gets it – that Namine just needed to cough up.

All in all, it was a pretty uneventful visit to the doctor, and Namine seems to be in good health. Except for that ear infection, of course, but we hope that clears itself up by Monday, when we’ll have to take her in to see ENT again.

  1. I’m glad that the visit overall was non-exciting & that she’s doing alright :)

  2. Good to know that all is well. I hope that fungal infection in her ear clears up soon.

  3. Glad that the emergency turned out to be nothing serious and all is well. You can never be too careful with kiddos like ours. The one time we let our guard down and get comfortable is the moment things go wrong. Keep it up and hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
