I’m pretty excited about the next version of Sticky Notes. I hope to be able to push it out to the Chrome Store by the weekend; I’ve just got one more piece to finish up. Read about the new stuff I’m adding after the jump.
When I introduced the color picker for defining note colors, I put in a little logic that changed the text color from black to white if the note color was dark enough. I’m doing away with that to make way for something even better: definable text colors. These are your notes, after all.
Something else I think is pretty important is the note’s title bar. The icons looked butt-ugly – and sometimes they were pretty hard to see – when the notes had a dark color, so now they change color (yes, any color) with the text.
To continue on with the changes to the color picker, I’ve put the eight preset colors back in.
I don’t really anything else to say about this one. It’s pretty self-explanatory.
The last major change I’ve put in is definitely the biggest, in terms of functionality. Yeah, note and text colors are pretty cool, but a sortable grid view has been on my to-do list for quite some time. I didn’t like being limited to an unchangeable, seemingly random listing of notes. With this update, you’ll be able to drag notes around in grid view and order them how you want.
You can see in the screenshot that the “Toggle Grid View” option in the menu will now stay highlighted if you’ve got the grid view active. I’ve also put the “add note” icon to the top bar back in.
